Fort Collins CO and Asthma/Elevation issues?

Hi,

We're moving there next month. I'm nervous with my asthma if a higher altitude could affect me. I'm in NY so we're pretty low. This area is 300 ft. So I'm going up about 4700 ft lol. What is it like for asthmatics?

I know a couple people here with asthma and it's not any bigger of an issue than people I have known anywhere. Maybe if you go up into the mountains the altitude could bother you but Fort Collins is at the base of the foothills so as long as you let your body adjust a few weeks before you try to do anything too ambitious then you will be fine. A bigger issue may be that the humidity here is way lower than what you are used to. You better think about buying a humidifier.

drink plenty of water every day

I think that after you acclimate (a few days to a few weeks), the altitude itself won't affect your asthma. Allergy season is what was hard on me (I used to live on the other side of the state, and my allergies got a lot worse when I moved to "the front range" as that area is called. But my asthma never worsened or seemed affected at all.

Plus, all the bars and restaurants in Ft. Collins are non-smoking, so maybe that will help your asthma too.

Good luck with your move!
