The most popular sport indeed is football (soccer), but also:
Basketball with a minor and major league.
Tennis (year-long tournaments)
Hand-ball (a native game played by native indians)
Bowling
Baseball

Yes, futbol (american soccer), basketball, volleyball and other team sports very common games, but not always organized in leagues especially in rural areas. Children's games like jump rope and tag are equally as popular in Ecuador as in the states. Hiking, walking/jogging also becoming popular. The kids we visited at a rural school in Ecuador amazed me with their games, singing and even reciting vocab in english (maybe a little help in pronounciation was needed). The kids wear a school uniform but they are just as fast on the soccer field in pants and collared shirt as we were in casual clothes. lol. Family is the center of culture for most people, and older children tend to care for their younger siblings while parents work and keep house. Weather beautiful, if not a little dry during parts of the year. Traffic laws nonexistant or not enforced, the drivers just decide who has the right of way and when. Lol.
