Tourism taking over the Galapagos Islands good or bad?

I just read this article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070618/sc_n...

What are your thoughts? Should tourism be limited or should it be a growing industry for the Galapagos?

Think about it? the tourism helps the poor country of Ecuador and gives jobs to those who need it BUT it ruins the fagile ecosystem that is unlike any in the world? what to do??!

The islands are unique and we should expect controls if their special place in our world is to be preserved.

It's a World Heritage Site and it needs to be preserved as best as possible - still open to tourism but needs to be limited and controlled.

They can raise the price of tourism there. They would make some money with less people visiting

There is a way to have both. It just needs a little more planning. Its sustained tourism. A well regulated set of laws can keep the product (islands) safe, while showing it to the world and producing enough income for the people.
I believe teh way it is now, maybe a little reinforcemnt on the actual tourism laws, keeping the amount of tourists vivisting the island nowadays is a perfect balance. I disagree with the oncstruction of fancy hotels, and cyber cafes and all the modern stuff that take away the beauty of a "little world within itself." Let it stay "au naturel" that is why tourist visit it! Ecuador has SO MANY other places to visit, if the country starts promoting other sites, the tourist load will divide itslef , income will raise, and any damage on ecology will be diminished.
