I have an old address of a friend in Ecuador I want to write back to?

(name)
Quito, Ecuador
Correo Central
(then tf xxx-xxx- I think that's the phone #?)

This is off a letter they wrote me 10 years ago or so- is that really the whole address? How might I be able to look up their current address?

Yeah, try dialing (593-2-2xxx-xxx). Also you might want to search him in the phone book: http://www.andinatel.com/home.htm, then click on "Guia Telefonica" on the right side of the screen, under "consultas".

Then a pop up window will open, in the combo, select the last option "Por nombre" and then enter in "Apellido", the last name and in "Nombre" the first name. Then click on "Buscar"

The number will show 7 digits. To make a call, you dial 5932 and the seven digits.

Good luck.

call 411 they know everything, and so they can give u an address and a phone #. they did it for me with my aunt and cuzins in columbia. =]]

This is a bit confusing. It is like you have parts of two addresses.

The Correa Central is the equivalent of General Delivery.

The tf xxx-xxx COULD be a mailbox at the central post office, although the numbers don't sound correct for that.

The other numbers look like part of a building designation for that Barrio (neighborhood)

Normally it would say something like Hernando de la Cruz TF 251-164.

Hernanco de la Cruz would be the street, TF would be the general zone, the first XXX numbers will be the specific block on the street, and the last XXX numbers will identify the specific building.

So zone TF, Block 251, Building 164.

Hope this helps.

It is confusing, because Quito has changed its numbering several times in the last few decades, and many buildings have not taken down the old addresses. So some buildings will have three sets off numbers on them. What fun!

I agree with the poster above me. Quito has quite confusing address numbers and has changed over the years, but I am sure that both ways takes it. If I had to send a letter to my mom with the new forms, it would take me forever to memorize it... I usually use the old way Street, number, city and country, like we do here in the US.
I have never heard of a PO box type in Ecuador, so I doubt it would be of any use to send it to the Correo Central. Is there an Ecuadorian yellow pages online? Maybe the 411, like the another girl said. If you have the phone number add a 2 to the front, they also changed the phones, adding a number...
Call 011 5932 2***-***, I really hope that helps...
