Hi jperez! in the future, when you want some facts like these, just browse the net, try google or wiki and you'll find the answer in less than 5 seconds! In every enciclopedia you'll find the capital of the country and then the history, geography, etc. Dont rley on yahoo answers for this type of question, try and do a little bit of research yourself. You are wasting your points and then you will find millions of answers with the word "Quito" which is the capital and links to pages which you could have gotten in 1 second!

Quito is the capital of Ecuador, I was just there about i dunno a week ago.

There is a lot of history involving Quito, maybe too much to tell, depending also over what? Churches, politics, wars? I would google the history in regards as to what you want to know. It is a very interesting country full of story! Did you know that Quito is not built where it was originally founded??? Yes, Quito is the capital of Ecuador, with just about 3 million in population. The country has about 13 milion, where Guayaquil has maybe about 6, all the rest is spread around the rest of the territory. About 70% of the population live in extreme poverty, as to where less than 10% is the high class wealthy that takes all the money.... ehem lawyers and politicians!
Did you know that Quito is the second highest capital in the world? And it is surrounded by 7 active volcanoes!
