How much money dos a family of 4 need in Ecuador to live?

I am sorry that I may not be a real authority on "living" in ecuador however my aunt and Uncle have lived there now with two children for almost 10 years. Alot will depend on how you want to live... In Quito you can live to a standard that you could live anywhere... and although it will be some cheaper, it may not be much. One thing that is noticeably cheaper is transportation. If you are wanting to own a car and drive, you may run into trouble, but the transportation system is excellent (though maybe not high class). As a rule you can travel anywhere in Ecuador for 1 dollar an hour by bus. Taxis are a bit more expensive. If you were to avoid the high priced malls and supermarkets I would think that you could live off of 6 - 700 USD a month... Of course your rental and the part of town is a big part of it too...
