What's the main building/ most popular building in Ecuador ?

for a spanish project i must find the main place in Ecuador and write a 2 page report on it so if you guys could help me out a little bit that would be great thanks !

There is no main building, but there is a plaza. Plaza de la Independencia is in the middle of old town Quito and it is surrounded by the presidential palace, the old cathedral, and the archbishop's palace. It's really the heart of Quito, and therefore Ecuador. If you search around, you should be able to find some info on it. There is a new hotel, the Plaza Grande, right on the plaza, it might be a good place to start.

The place the previous answer mentioned, the gold church, is the Jesuit church, about a block away from the central plaza.It's cool, but hardly the most important building in Quito. The San Francisco Cathedral, about two blocks further away from the plaza, is much more important to the people of Ecuador.

In Quito there is an enormous old cathedral that was built during the colonial period. It is beautiful inside and awe inspiring. The walls are covered with religious carvings that are covered with gold leaf. It appears that the inside of the church is made of pure gold.
