How cold does it get in Quito during winter? |
I'm going there Jan. 7th-13th, and I'm wondering if I should take my heavy, furry and extremely warm winter jacket (which I use here in the Canadian cold) with me. YES there is a winter in quito, I talked to my sister in law last night and she said it was 5 degrees C which is unusually cold it supposed to be anywhere between 9 to 15 degrees at night, There are two seasons, wet and dry. The wet season is called winter and the dry is considered summer. Quito's summer lasts about 4 months, from the end of June to September. Quito sees its fair share of rain from October through May, though even during this period the climate supports a multitude of diversions. There are enough sunny days during the rainy season to accommodate all but the most insatiable sun worshipers, and when the sun hides, Quito has plenty to offer indoors. Most Quito flights arrive at night, and many travelers arrive in shorts and beach wear assuming that since its on the Equator, it must be hot, then the first step out of the airport gives them a crisp, cool Quito welcome. Quito, as in the capital of http://www.ecuador.com/, right on the Equator? There is no such thing as winter in the city. as the previous answer told you, the weather wont get as cold as in Canada, no need for the heavy, furry and extremely warm winter jacket, only if you decide to go to the mountains; which make no sense since you are only staying a week, take maybe an autum jacket and a rain coat, it would be around 9 or 11C during the day, but late at night can get pretty cold (once again not as cold as Canada; but still cold around 2 or 3C) most of the places dont have heating system so you might get cold at night. |
