What recent novels take place in Scotland?

and more specificly, Edinburgh.

The most famous are the Rebus books by Ian Rankin set in Edinburgh. Or you can read any of Irvin Welsh like Trainspotting set in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh plays an important role throughout the Rebus novels; a character itself, as brooding and as volatile as Rebus. The Edinburgh depicted in the novels is far short of the beautiful city which tourists in their thousands flood to visit. Hidden behind the historic buildings and elegant facades is the world that Rebus inhabits.
He is the UK's number 1 bestselling crime author. Famous for the acclaimed Inspector Rebus series which has topped the Sunday Times bestseller lists and been adapted into a major TV series, Ian Rankin is also the author of three books which were originally published under the pseudonym of Jack Harvey (a combination of Ian's son's first name and his wife, Miranda's maiden name). Click through to the Jack Harvey section to read a sample chapter from each.

You can find out more about Rebus by clicking through to the Rebus features section where you can explore Rebus's Edinburgh in an exclusive Edinburgh map, and read about some of the characters who appear in the series. And if this has whetted your appetite and you would like to go on and buy a book, simply go to the links section where you will be able to connect through to some recommended online book retailers.

Happy reading.

The monkey of Edinburgh

I have just started writing it, is should be in shops within 4 years...

Most if not all of Ian Rankins books take place in Edinburgh. As do a lot of Irving Welsh's books (he's the guy who wrote trainspotting. There are tons of other books that are based in Scotland, I especially reccomend the crow road but thats not Edinburgh.
