How long has edinburgh been the capital of scotland?

How long has edinburgh been the capital of scotland?

To answer your question properly 571 years.

The capital of Scotland, in the eastern part of the country on the Firth of Forth. The city grew up around a castle built in the 11th century by King Malcolm III, successor to Macbeth, and it became the capital of Scotland in 1437. Edinburgh later developed into an important literary and cultural center and is the site of an annual international festival of the arts. Population: 430,000.

It has been the capital of Scotland since 1437 replacing Scone.

I thought Dunfermline was capitiol of Scotland before Edinburgh. Scone is where the King Of Scots was crowned on the stone of Scone or stone of destiny as its sometimes called

Since 1437.

(As a side, London never has been, is not and never will be the capital of Scotland)

I thought Glasgow was the capital now?

Since 1437

Edinburgh did not crop up very often in Scottish history until the reign of Malcolm III (1058-1093) when he built a fortress on the site of the present castle. King Robert Bruce granted Edinburgh a charter in 1329 but it did not become the national capital until 1437, following the murder of King James I at Perth, which had been the capital up to that point (though Stirling and even Forfar had been the base for government). Prior to that date, however, Edinburgh had been the usual residence of the king.
