How much is a taxi cab in germany?

whats the base cost and also how much it is per mile?

They vary but all I have taken start out with a flat rate to start and you can watch the meter rising as you are with them and it keeps going based on TIME not distance, so make sure you know your way well so they do not add extra miles and time on to you to cost more.

I have never had this problem because I could speak German and knew where I was going, I once corrected a Taxi driver who was about to go the wrong way and it was accidental not an intentional way to make money, he was unsure the exact street locale just was close to it, i knew so he listened to me.

So it may be good to learn your directions and how to speak them when taking a taxi. I find using their bus networks are great in most places that have them and the trains are also great ways to travel outside the city you are in. You could rent an Auto, but you need an international license to be on the safe side unless you are from Europe already and I also suggest that you good insurance for your car, health and dental!!

So its not based on Miles, they use Kilometers anyways by the way so learn the conversion as best as you can 55 mph is 90 kph for example!

I usually always buy a bus pass in the city for my stay and also a German Rail pass for city to city travel so i do not have to rent a car and only rarely do i ever use a taxi for they can be very expensive.

Hope that helps you some. I am a seasoned travel to Germany for over 18 years now and lived there before too!

good luck! they charge a fortune and the rates vary and no one charges the "official" rate.

It depends very much. In the countryside, taxi tariffs are way out of bounds; you'll pay something like 1.4 euros a kilometer (that's two thirds of a mile) and some extra fare just for calling them. In the cities, there are other regulations. For longer distances, you usually agree on a flat tariff. Mind that gasoline is really expensive in Germany, so taxi fares may have their reason. Every city and federal state have their own rules about it, and private companies (where they're allowed) can charge virtually anything they want as long as you agree. But, on the other hand, you have thoroughly checked, clean cars, and experienced drivers, that can take for three hundred miles, if you can afford it.

The only time I would take a taxi is from the airport to my hotel. After that, if you're in Frankfurt, get a bus, train, trolly pass. You can buy them by the day or week. It is sooooooooo
much cheaper and you can go anywhere. I've been there several times and this was the only way I traveled. MOST, not all, Germans speak some english so even if I needed directions they were never hard to get. Frankfurt is a great city to visit, lots to do and great people.
