About 40 years ago, BTA (or Basic Travel Allowance) was once required for foreign travelers entering a destination country as a way to satisfy the destination government's concern of illegal immigration and/or destitution of the traveler.

This is no longer the case as all governments have already done away with BTA requirements.

What is happening in your case is that a Nigerian scammer is sitting in an internet cafe trying to hook people like you to send him money because he supposedly is now without any means to return to the U.S. and "urgently" needs for you (and others) to send him money.

In reality, he is not thinking of leaving Nigeria; instead, he is sitting in that internet cafe all day and all night sending out thousands of emails to random people asking them to help him out on his fake story of destitution. Whenever he gets someone to send him money (usually in the thousands of $ through Western Union), he gets up from his computer and goes to the place where one picks up money transfers and collects your money. Then he will think to himself "is the person who sent me this money dumb or what?" and go back to his computer and work on the heartstrings of more generous people for more money.

I urge you to break off all contact with this person. If you gave the person your phone number, change it immediately. He will then try his best to plead with you about his imminent urgency of the situation. What he will do is try to create doubt in your mind so as to keep you sending him money. Your guy is a scam artists and does not care how much he hurts you financially.

I have read many answers regarding this BTA, and we are told that it does not exist anymore......but the reality is it does. My partner has been stuck there for 3 weeks....Everyday he tries to board the flight having asked in the morning what is the BTA for today.being told a price then when he gets to the airport, its gone up....and he dosnt have the extra money...so they wont let him on board. . Almost everyone at the check in counters is corrupt. We are told all you need is a valid ticket and passport.....But u try getting your flight without having a bta....you have no chance.
I even rang the airlines involved only to be told we have no control on what the ground staff do. they are independently employed.....What a horrible country and your right it deserves the tag of ' worlds most corrupt country'

my advice to you is that if you don't know this guy, don;t send a cent. He could be real or not real it's none of your business. Don't even open his mails. if you see them just delete them.

Hey i know someone there too. Is her yahoo id maryjames211? or is her name mary? let me know

scam scam scam

If there was a BTA, it is a requirement to ENTER a country, and not to EXIT one. Think about it - why would the nigerian government care if you have money to spend in the USA? They aren't that concerned about your well being. If anything they would try to prevent you from leaving with hard currency.
