Does Pakistan pay social welfare to the needy? Are Pakistanis receiving retirement money?
I am just wondering because so many Pakistanis are so desperate to come to the UAE to work for so little money. What's behind it? Can Pakistan not take care of it's own people? What is the social structure in Pakistan? Why do sons have to support parents? Do you not receive any retirement money?
How does your solcial system work?
Thanks for your answers in advance. These are not just Pakistanis who are desperate to come to UAE or else where in good economies. Migration is a global trend, and I assume people move from well developed countries like Britain or USA to countries like Australia, Singapore and UAE.
What you think is little money is not little in economies like Pakistan or Bangladesh or Philippines. With growing inflation and rising credits and lowering interest rates, a common citizen (whether labor or skilled workers)of such economies would like to move else where . 2000 Dirhams is around 32000 in Pakistan, if you can save one thousand, it is much more than what you can earn in your native country where 10000 per month is counted to be good salary.
This is also policy of countries such as India or China or Pakistan or Morroco to encourage people abroad to send back remittances. Remittances are a good source of foreign exchange and many countries in Africa, Asia and Europe are depending on it.
Moreover these remittances improved the health and education back at home.
Pakistan is not a social welfare state, in fact we are still in search what kind of state it is :) There is pension policy for government employees and some good companies in private sector, but with growing inflation that pension is not enough to support a family. Sons have to support parents, because its supposed to be their moral obligation in our society, it is not considered to be a burden. The question-wise answers are as follows:
- Social welfare is paid to the needy but the coverage needs to be extended and the system needs significant improvement.
- people receive retirement money but ways are different i.e. pension, gratuity or provident fund.
- By so many, i guess you are including the labour class as well. For them the currency exchange factor and earning in UAE and spending in Pakistan offers reasonable savings. For professionals, I believe it is like any nationality and they all look forward to make the most of the opportunity available in the Middle East, which lacks local competent professionals. We see expats coming from almost all countries and by far professionals from Pakistan/India are considered the best and they are not very expensive as well.
- Pakistan can take care of its people, however, like any developing nation and primary dependence on agriculture coupled with lower literacy rate, the opportunities are not enough to cater the demand.
- The social structure is just the same as in any islamic country and people live in a family (joint or otherwise). People visit their friends and relatives on occassions or after a reasonable period and generally people have good relationship with their neighbours. They are helpful when somebody needs it.
- Islam requires parents to take care of their children and ensure best possible upbringing. In return, it requires children to take good care of their parents when they are old. So we just follow that.
Hope I have answered all your questions.
