Where are some cool attractions in Austria?

I'm going there in a month . Any info would be great

Visit the impressive and grand Schonbrunn Palace and it's extensive grounds. It also contains the oldest zoo in Europe, hedge maze, restaurants, water fountains, etc.

The famous and imposing Stephansdom cathedral with its brightly coloured tiled roof.

The Belvedere Palaces and gardens today houses a very impressive art gallery.

The sprawling Hofburg complex which was the former imperial apartments - offers museums, Austrian National Library, Winter Riding School, Albertina art gallery, etc.

Kunsthistoriches Museum or Art History Museum which houses collections of art gathered by the Habsburg royal family over the centuries. Across from this museum is the Natural History Museum which houses archaeological, anthropological, mineralogical, zoological and geological displays.

Walk around the Stadtpark which contains statues of famous composers including the most popular photographed gilded one of Johann Strauss II.

Watch the moving figures on the Anker Clock in the Hoher Markt square.

The Volksprater Funfair at the western end of the Prater park. You will also find a miniature railway and Freudenau Horse Racetrack.

There are also lots of great restaurants, cafes and pubs in Vienna. The cake and coffee in Vienna are to die for! You will find the best ones in central Vienna, inside the Ringstrasse. I recommend visiting the Griechenbeisl on Fleischmarkt street reputed to be the oldest pub in Vienna for some local cuisine.

Best shopping is in the pedestrian shopping areas on the Graben, Karntner, Kohlmarkt and Mariahilfer streets.

Have a great trip!

It's cruel of me to say it, but Hitler's home in Braunau am Inn, Austria. :D

Stephansdom & Stephansplatz, Maria Hilfer Strasse, Shoenbrunn, City Hall... It's all beautiful.

vienna is great, and there麓s nightlife 24-7 too. everything from opera, art museums, amazing architecture and hiking is here. theres local info on virtualvienna.net
for something different and more alpine culture, innsbruck is an idyllic mountain town in the ski region.
the salzkammergut region near salzburg(also beautiful, has a river thru the city, mozars birthplace, famous castle, etc)offers loads of outdoor activites. there are many lakes, all clean crystal blue, swimming in the summer, there麓s face jumping, paragliding, rock climbing, hiking, camping, and many lovely, quaint hotels to choose from. the mountains there are truly spectacular, theres a train that takes you to the top of one peak.
lower and upper austria has the cleaner side of the danube, which in a month might be warm enough for swimming. the wachau area in lower austria is known for its wine, castles, arts, and folk fairs, and is considered 1 of europes loveliest spots. waldviertel is great for hiking, picturesque landscape and celtic culture. zwettl has a brewery and a lovely lake nearby. castles, old pilgrimage churches (such as maria taferl), amazing landscape (ysperklamm), and folk fairs. linz in upper austria is a lovely small city, and grein is worth a look too. melk has an old(at least 500 years old),grand monastery, academy, paulo coelho is listed among its annual visitors. these 2 regions are ideal for a camping/bike tour or a road trip. there are also small river cruisers with rooms that tour the donau.
off vienna麓s beaten path:kahlenberg, ottakringer wald, danube island (donau insel),grinzing: vineyards, views to the city, hiking, wine gardens(-heurigen- they sell dozens of their own wine from the nearby vineyards, fresh deli and gourmet food, great ambience, large patios, great beer)
these areas are in and within 30-100 miles of vienna, so vienna would be a great starting point/home base.
i don麓t recommend you buy any rail tickets from the U.S. online. there are loads of last miute, short term specials going on that you cant book from there. you could easily take an affordable day trip to neighboring bratislava, etc. there is also a boat trip on the danube to bratislava, and cheap (20 euros,RT) overnight tickets to italy and germany. austrian rail site is oebb.at
i recommend the eyewitness travel guide. austria has more to offer, but these are areas i am familiar with.
happy travels!
