Holiday austria?

best places to visit in austria?best season?

It really depends on what you like. Cities? Mountains (hiking or skiing)? Quaint villages?

I like to go just before or just after kids are out of school. If you have a choice, that's the best time, because the weather tends to be nice and there are not so many tourists. Cities are fine in the winter, but if you want to drive around the countryside, snow really gets in the way.

Go to http://www.austria.info

It's a very good site with many links, and it's not commercial, so no one is trying to sell you anything unless you click on ads. If you can't find the English version right away, look for a British flag to click on. If you spend a couple of hours looking at the many places and things to do in Austria, you will be much better off than most tourists, and will be able to pick what you like, not what others think you should like.

For example, my sister loves horses, and she wanted to visit the Lipizzaner horse breeding farm in Piber, and adored it. My niece would have hated that. She's a city person from Los Angeles.

By doing your own wandering on the internet, you can find what you would really like.

Enjoy Austria!

My wife is an Austrian and we just spent a couple of weeks visiting her family. While I enjoy all of Austria, if you want to get away from the "touristy" areas, check out Bregenz. It sits on the western end of the country, borders both Switzerland and Germany. It also sits on the Bodensee (an incredibly large lake) and is nestled in the mountains. While we were there, we swam one day, hiked the next, drove to Switzerland and wandered around there and also went to Munich, which is about 1 1/2 hours away. (We also took a side trip to Cologne to visit some friends). It's the most beautiful place I've ever been to and has lots of things to do.

No matter where you go, enjoy!
