Why does every shop in sweden close at 18:00? I think that is weird?

Isn't it weird

That's what I like about the US, everything is open 24 hours and the taxes are low compared to Swedens insane taxes which screw the poor. Plus less crime, in Sweden the cops don't do anything or else they get accused of being racist. And ambulances get attacked. Weird country, glad I left

I'm not sure about Sweden, but in Holland it is similar. Not all shops are closed at 1800 anymore, but a lot are.

Why is it weird? If people are fully capable of buying the stuff they need during the day, why keep the shop open longer and hire all those extra people?

Besides, in big cities you will find some night shops. Also, many stores are open on saturday when people don't have to work. And, often, there are shopping evenings or buy evenings when the stores ARE open longer. It's a good way to get a concentration of customers on certain days, while otherwise you're not asking more from your employees when really there's not much to do.

Don't you think keeping stores open so long is a waste?

Day

It does even in Belgium !!! I did ask a shopkeeper of this and he said that he also needs time with his family and friends. When i queried what if i needed something later than 18:00 hrs then he said that we should go to the automated shop and buy the same...somewhat similar to the soft drink can dispenser... wierd

No, it isn't weird. Shops all over Europe used to close at this time, and many do still in Ireland.
