Has anybody ever seen the passion play at Oberammergau in Germany?

The Oberammergau passion play is coming up in 2010, and my mother and I are thinking of going. We are looking into the tours that offer this package.

Has anyone ever seen it? Is it really 7 hours long, with dinner intermission? I presume it is in German; if so, could you understand it?

seen it, it was marvellous
if you really want to go, book now
it's the whole day, yes with a lunch breake
it's in german but you can have a headphone for translation
you understand the whole story anyway
find more information on the link below.

I've always wanted to go to that. I was stationed in Germany for 3 years from 1989 to 91. They had it then when I was there but I didn't get to go for some reason. I had a friend who went to it. He said it was incredible. If you have a chance to go, by all means go. I would like to go. Perhaps I should start saving my money so I can go too. Thanks for the info!

I saw it videotaped, and yes, it is that long. As I'm Bavarian myself and used to play a minor role in another laymen actors' group I was interested in it, and a friend sent me that VHS tape. One cassette is good for an 8 hour recording, and I think she cut out the breaks, and it was 7 1/2. It's in German and partly in Bavarian dialect, but it's about the story of the passion of Jesus Christ, so if you know the story, you'll understand what's going on on stage. Do get your tickets right now if you really want to go, as Oberammergau has become almost as famous as the Vienna or Milano opera, and if you don't buy two years in advance, it will be sold out.
