Costs of living in Germany - Accomodation and expenses?

Hi, I am going to stay in Germany for more than 1 year, I would like to make an estimate of how much I am going to spend monthly.I want to know how much does it cost on average to rent an appartemnt for one year in berlin (4 bedroms or more , furnished)? How much would a family of 2+an infant need to spend monthly on average? How much does it cost to buy a decent (nit fancy) car?
Thank you

Here a few answers to your questions:

Apartments in Berlin are fairly cheap and plentiful. It is a HUGE (size) city and getting around by subway is easy. Cost for 4 br around EURO 900, depending on neighborhood. I don't think that you will find any furnished apartments, but you can try. It is not very typical...

When renting, find out if utilities are included ("warm"). If not, count on an additional 200-250/month for heating, water, gas, and additional costs that renters are allowed to charge.

Monthly costs on average: EURO 1800 for everything.

Driving in Germany is expensive. You can still find a relatively cheap used car. Because you have never had insurance in Germany your premiums will be sky-high. Talk to you present insurer if he has any advice on how to handle this. Being in Berlin you MAY not need a car, as getting around is easy with train, bus & subway.

Enjoy your time!

Wow, that is a HUGE appartment. If you are going to eat out a lot, I would say you should spend about $2000-$3000 a month. (US) I don't recommend spending much on a car, because there is tons of public transportation in Berlin.
