What do you do with the restroom key?

say you goto the convenient store, and they have to give you one of those keys, hooked to a great big piece of wood or something. Isn't this bad and full of germs?

No more than the handle on the restroom door or the flusher thing on the toilet or the handles on the sink or the very air in the place.
I watched a show where they did one of those infra-red specto things on the air around a toilet when it was flushed.
If you flush without closing the top lid it sends a cloud of germs into the air that spreads for 25 feet!!!!!!
And most public toilets don't have a lid just those horseshoe things.
I try to avoid public restrooms whenever I can.

Usually, so is the feeling in your guts and the fecal matter thereof. Go do your do and lav sus manos(wash your hands.)

Yes just use it anyway if you can't wait to go.
