Glasgow Scotland neighborhoods; convenience for tourist?

Does anyone know which area in Glasgow would be more convenient for visitors without a rental car to stay at: "48 St. Andrews Square Glasgow G1"...or, "Mavisbank Gardens Glasgow G51, 1HG" ??? These are the two vacation rental areas I need to choose from, but I don't know exactly how convenient they both are without a car - to get to shops, supermarkets, restaurants etc..

St Andrews Square is in the City centre. How much more central do you want?

G1 is right in the centre of town, St Andrew's square is to the east end of the city centre. G51 is Govan to the South Side of the River Clyde. Both are pretty accessible as in govan you'll be near the tube and in St Andrew's square you'll be in the centre of town.

I would say St.Andrews square would be better for you as it's more central. It's very near Glasgow Cross and you are just a short walk to the train and bus stations, shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs. Hope you have a great time in Glasgow!

Both are within ten minutes walk of George Square in Glasgow. Both are modern "yuppie" flats.

Personally, I would not go to St. Andrews Square. It is on the edge of the Barras, just behing Glasgow Cross. Not an area of Glasgow I would walk through at throwing-out time.

Mavisbank Gardens is really in Kingston, not Govan. The worst parts of Kingston were flattened to make way for the Kinngston Bridge, carrying the M8 over the Clyde. (And incidentally, Britan's widest motorway bridge at 10 lanes wide). The area was left derelict for many years, but the flats were built on part of the former Glasgow Garden Festival site.

find your way to Ashton Lane.
go into the Ashoka and try the house curry.
die happy.

Mavisbank Gardens is about 5/10 minutes walk into the city centre and probably closer to most things than the G1 address supplied. There is a bus stop there that goes right into town (if you dont want to walk) which is only a couple of stops away. Ample taxis availiable too.

It is also a short walk from Harry Ramsdens restaurant, The Quay entertainment complex (cinema, restaurants, bingo, casino which is yet to open, hotels), and a further walk in that direction down the clydeside will take you to the science centre, Glasgow Tower and SECC.

Don't go out with a tour guide. It's hard enough for someone from Scotland, let alone for yourself as an American tourist. You'll be chibbed the minute you walk out of your door by some wee daftie ned, steamed up on Buckie & spliffs & wondering why you don't think his "burd" is attractive.

G1 is your best bet as that is in the centre of Glasgow. They do have a good underground system in the city & public transport is pretty good as well, so on a seroius note I would advise G1.

I'd say it'd be better to stay at 48 St. Andrews Square, it's more central than the other address, meaning you can get to shops and such easier.
