Are there any engagement traditions in Greece?

My friend's daughter is getting engaged in April and between the two of us we can't think of any traditions - however her sister-in-law says there is but can't think what they are! Says there's something about glasses /rings/bombonieres etc
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
We are in Ipirus - maybe traditions vary with places

The engagement traditions vary slightly from place to place.
The ceremony can be just as simple or more elaborate according to everyone's wants.
The simple one is that the couple can exchange rings with their names engraved on the inside, in any place they find romantic to do so.
The more elaborate is a little informal ceremony at the house of the bride to be, usually performed by her parents or even better by a priest who will read a prayer, while eulogize the rings over an icon. This also can be done by the father of the bride. He will make the sign of the cross with the rings in his fingers over an icon. A plate with a few "koufeta" is also a must on the table where the icon will be placed.
The newly developed tradition is that the relatives may fire shotguns in the air thus notifying the neighbors that there is a "xara" in the house by the engagement . That is contrary to a funeral.
Usually gifts are given to the couple by the close relatives, mostly in gold. Especially by the respective parents to the bride and the groom. Always items in gold or watches.
Bonbonieres are not a must but they can be offered if the parents want to make something more plush and high -class.
In most cases a "glenti" is a must with a lot of wine and food. The more the food and the wine, the more the merrier.
Your local customs may differ. Ask some neighbor to let you know the situation in your place.
