How culturally diverse is Hamburg?

Just want to know.

Oops. Sorry people. Yeah, in the arts, ethnicities, etc. You know, how does it compare to other large cities in the rest of the world.

From what I've read so far, Berlin is better than Hamburg. Sorry for not being more specific, but I kept the question wide open on purpose for any type of answer.

I'll be visiting Germany in a few months and I just want a good place to land.

Hamburg is pretty damn amazing if you ask me. But what exactly is your question referring to? I lived there for 19 years, so maybe I can help you if you get a little more specific :)

If you want real diversity, check out Berlin.........oh man yuk.

Fishy. It smells fishy. In my opinion (I'm German) they have an upper class and a lower class, and little in between. I like the multicultural intermingleing in Berlin so much better, and I grew up in Bavaria (and live here again), so I think I can compare, on some reasonable basis and personal experience.

Thanks for the two thumbs down, lads, but is there anything wrong in that I don't like Hamburg?

Hamburg is currently run by a gay Jew - its representative in the Euopean parliament was born in Turkey. The leader of the free democrats is also gay - Hamburg has more immigrants than all other states but Baden-W眉rttemberg and Hesse. ( Twice as many as Berlin)

Hamburg has more theaters than any other city in Germany (more than 60), the oldest opera house, the famous Kunsthalle museum of art - entertainment, nightlife, art - a city that never sleeps.

Hamburg has never had a king or queen; it has always been some kind of democracy. The first to introduce religious freedom,. the 3rd country to acknowledge the US after the war of independence, .... a wonderful city. A city with an open spirit.

It is the most modern city in Germany.

Hey walton don't understand your question? What do you mean with culture ? music --- theater you will find in Hamburg everything you want on a high level. Hamburg is the city with the most jazz clubs in the world just behind New Orleans.

Hey Alwin,
as you stated in one of your answers -- you never have been in Hamburg. How you can say "Hamburg smells fishy"? Berlin the multicultural intermingleling city ? Have you never heard about no-go-areas in Berlin ? Here in Hamburg you can visit your friends in all parts of the city without looking before in your passport, if your nationality is ok or looking at your skin if the colour is ok. We have NO no-go-areas. I dislike to repeat me all the time, but once I sat in a plane from Bogota to Baranquilla, and I read AVIANCA- (the prime air-carrier of Colombia) magazine. Top story: "Hamburgo, la ciudad mas cosmopolitan de Europa" and that says all.
I have been in 4 european Capitals Stockholm, Copenhagn, Bonn and Madrid, ( and London but that dosn't count I only have been on the highway between Gatewick and Heathrow). I shall avoid to visit a european capital again, for they represent for me the arrogancy of power --- except Copenhagn --- I only can say "Koepenhavn jeike ester dig".
(Copenhagn I love you).

Alwin -- if your answer is good I always give you a thumb up --- if your answer is worse, you get a thumb down, but this time --- I think you have got enough thumbs down.
Come to Hamburg --- have a look --- and then judge "I dislike it" --- but I beliefe you will say --- Hamburg --- the german city where you can breath free.
Greetings to all from Hamburg, Germany
Heinz
