I heard it's terrible to have a cold while you go on a plane trip, why is that?

There are multiple reasons.

The air in a plane is very dry. As you know, if you have a cold it's best to have a humidifier going to add moisture to the air.

Also, when you have a cold it's difficult to clear your ears. On a plane the cabin is pressurized to 8,000 feet. So, you may experience ear pain if you're seriously stuffed up.

Also, since the air is recirculated, you will pass your germs, and probably pick up other people's germs when your system is weak.

When you are sick, your sinus's are usually infected, ie stuffy nose...
The altitude of the plane makes your head feel like you are going to explode due to the air-pressure change. It sucks! Happened to me last year, was sick for 2wks and flew 4 times during the two weeks, it was horrible. Ears hurt and headache, not fun!

Because you spread your filth to all the others on the plane for one. The changing pressure in the cabin can be painful to infected ear, nose, and throat tracts as well. Please stay home if sick!
