Has any one here been to Tasmania, Australia?

What's it like?

oh yeah. lived in hobart for five years and absolutely love the place.
quiet
natural
no tall building (well a few)
peaceful
crime rate super low (dont be surprised if a minor car crash makes the headline)
you are bound to live 15 minutes away from a beach
every house in the neighbourhood has roses (particularly white ones)
houses dont even have fence ;-)
people are always always very friendly (dont be surprised if you walk on the street and a stranger says hello passing by). speed limit is 5okm/h unless specified loL.
you may sometimes see cars on the road but not a driver and when you drive past, a grey-haired lady's behind the wheel ;-)
hobart's a small city, and less traffic
not much of asian influence yet but its growing (only two asian groceries when i left - which are like miles apart)
shops are usually close at 5 all week.
and heH, forget about shopping.

anyway, this is my personal experience and memories of hobart, left about two years ago. i have visited most places in tassie too, but it would be best to check this website
www.discovertasmania.com.au to find out more if you are coming for holiday ;-)

enjoy your time!

i am going in january. i have heard its like a mini new zealand but the scenery isnt quite as good. whatever that means.

Check the australian websites.

quite cold in winter....very green.....looks very much like English countryside in many parts. A really lovely place.
(I am from Cairns, Australia)

I have. It's an extemely beautiful part of our world. There are many websites devoted to travelling the area.

The best way to see Tasmania is to hire a car, starting from and ending at your point of arrival, driving in a circular route. Most of the points of interest are located on the coast or just inland.

Tasmania is loaded with history and charm. Port Arthur is a particular place of sadness but one you should visit.

It's the home of Cadbury chocolate and has the best cheeses and beef.

it is like ummmmm Tasmania it just is
bloody cold in winter
OK most of the rest of the year
nice place to visit

PS
if you go there don't ask to see the scar on the shoulder(where the extra head was removed) it upsets some of them

I live in Tasmania!! It is great! Beautiful place. So much to see and do.

to be quite honest I actually think it likes a little scratch behind the ears but becareful cause sometimes it bites lol

Tasmania is a lovely holiday destination.

I recently spent 3 weeks touring there with partner and child.

We hired a car and made up our own self drive tour...did a circular route starting from Launceston progressing down east coast to Swansea, Port Arthur, Hobart, Richmond, before venturing west across to Strahan, north to Cradle Mountain before turning east and returning to Launceston.

For most travellers, best way will be to fly to Melbourne and pick up a connecting flight through to Launceston.

Alternatively, you could fly to Hobart or catch the ferry across Bass Strait and arrive in Devonport.

We thought Launceston was lovely, Bicheno looked nicer than Swansea...although Swansea was nice enough.

Port Arthur is AWESOME, Hobart is ordinary except for Salamanca Markets, Mt Wellington, and Cadbury Chocolate factory.

Richmond is AWESOME and so was Strahan too for that matter.

Cradle Mountain is scenic and worth a look...but not good value for money. I'd keep it as a day trip and not bother staying there...the facilities arent that great and everything is exorbitantly priced!

Cheers :)

I live in Tassie!!
its a good tourist place. if your going make an effort to see strahan and stanley. beautiful little towns.
