Getting to maui?

We want to go to Maui from LA. Do we have to fly into Honolulu on Oahu first and then take a jet to Maui? Or, how do we get there? Is there an airport in Maui?

There are many direct flights into Kahului (OGG) from the west coast of North America, but international flights arrive on Oahu (HNL). The direct flights to Maui tend to be less frequent and more expensive, but they may be cheaper than the flight to HNL plus the island hop to OGG.

I live on Molokai and fly to and through both airports frequently. Both of them are surprisingly open to the fresh air. OGG is much less stressful. There are two metal detectors, and on a busy afternoon there might be a couple dozen people in each line. Yet, there are two Starbucks locations in the airport!

You can fly directly from LA to Kahului, Maui.

Yes, there is an airport on Maui, in fact I think there are 2. But I know for sure that there is one in Kahului, which is on the North side of Maui. I've been to Maui 3 times and that's the airport that we've flown into from LA every time.

i know American Airlines flies directly into Kahului airport on the north shore of Maui, from LA; as we have done it repeatedly.
Just go onto expedia or orbitz and pull up flights from LAX to OGG!
Only reason to go through Honolulu is if it's much cheaper or if you are bringing a pet with you who will have to go through the quarantine station in Honolulu.
