Why Is Kansas City in Missouri? |
can someone explain to me why this is? its on bothe sides of Missouri river. On west is kansas city, kansas on east kansas city MO the MO side is much larger and is normally what people mean if the say Kansas City. There are lots of suburbs on bothe sides of state line and all is considered the Kansas City metro area. It's on both sides, silly. It just grew o'er the border. because they changed the state boundries after the city was already there. Would YOU want to be from Kansas??? I mean, really, there is nothing there. It started in Kansas, but moved to Missouri ASAP. http://www.kcmo.org/kcmo.nsf/web/kchisto... Because it's along the Kansas River. Kansas City, Missouri is eight years older than the state of Kansas, which is also along the Kansas River. This country was settled from east to west. That means Missouri was settled before Kansas. In the days before roads and railroads, rivers were the quickest and easiest way to travel. Just as the state of Missouri was named after the Missouri River, the state of Kansas and city of Kansas City were named after the Kansas River. The city of Kansas City is located where the Kansas and Missouri Rivers meet. a person named it and called it Kansas. It happened to be in Missouri.IT was a personal choice of the name. IT is not offensive, and nothing wrong with it. There is also a Kansas City, Kansas across the river. Lewis and Clark first made notes about its prime location at the confluence of the Kaw (Kansas) and Missouri rivers while they were exploring the Louisiana Purchase. In 1834, John McCoy established Westport Landing on a bend in the Missouri River and as people began to settle in the area, it became incorporated as the "Town of Kansas." Over time, the surrounding are grew as the population expanded until the region became a starting point for exploration trails leading westward. The politics of the U.S. Civil War helped establish the boundaries between Missouri and a future state, Kansas, and once the war was over the city changed its name officially to "Kansas City." Today, there are two Kansas Cities: the larger one in Missouri and a smaller-but-growing one in Wyandotte County, Kansas. There are two Kansas City's one in Kansas where I'm from and there's one in Missouri which is right over the bridge from one another... For the same reason that Oklahoma City is in ... oh, never mind. why is new york in Missouri Stop asking this stupid question! for the love of GOD!!!
