Really need help about a call to kenya.?

i have been trying to call my bf , who lives in nairobi kenya, i know that kenya had some problems, but ppl r still living there, and r ok. however i tried calling on his mobile, and the connection just wont go through, i tried from many phones , but i keep getting the same response, i dont think it's his mobile because, the mobile would say something else. but when i call an operator just says, the call is unavalible please try later. and everytime i do it says the same thing, every single time. its been 3 days and im kinda worried to what is going on.... and i dont think its the phone that im using, i think something is wrong with the connections over there, like they're now allowing connections.. so can u tell me what could be the reason and what i can try to get through to him? and does this happen anywhere else, like if i called somalia or any other country would the same thing happen because of connections or services!??? thanks a lot!!

Well i call all the time and it works maybe you should type the tole free number of where you live then type 011 which is the international code then 254 which is kenya's area code. So your number should be 011-254-********. I hope this helped.
