Is Liverpool a great city?

Okay, it has some run-down areas, and some right on the fringes of the centre, but lots of these areas are being flattened on a huge scale and regenerated, reversing years of decline in this once great port city and economic powerhouse. The neglect of the Thatcher years are just a distant memory.

There is one reason why the answer is no, that is because Liverpool is the GREATEST city!

The city is still a great port and an important regional centre, one of the two dynamos for the North West. Which other area of the country can boast two world-class orchestras , 4 top football clubs. Liverpool has such amazing architecture Victorian and modern.

OK there has been huge economic changes. I should know why Dad used to work at Tate & Lyles, his friends used to work at Bibby's and an Aunt used to work at the Auto in Edge Lane etc.

Like Glasgow, a very similar Celtic city, Liverpool has been adept at reinventing itself.

Do not knock the manufacturing on Merseyside. Who would have thought that our area would be more important than Birmingham as a car producer!

The vitality of the Merseysiders is such that we can overcome the vile nastiness of Thatcher and her cronies and build a better city than she would ever have dreamed of.

you know,

it is great ..

to know..

No. Liverpool is not a great city

Why does the Mersey run through Liverpool?
If it walked it would get mugged

Unfortunately much of what makes it great is being destroyed by the so-called 'regeneration'.

Decline was caused by the avaricious money-men turning their backs on the place to get their snouts in the London trough, and starting to tell tasteless and unfunny jokes about the place and its hapless residents who were made unemployed by their desertion.

Now that there's a smell of profitable property development in the air they're back like the proverbial flies around sh*t.

They aren't welcome.

Yeh it is lol cause i come from there!i am a scouser

yeee man i luv liverpool !!!

People seem to love or hate Liverpool. I hate it as I don't much like football, heavy drinking or nostalgia for the Beatles. It is a city with little physical attraction in its architecture.

It seems people are beginning to take notice, Liverpool is the most searched for city in the world on Google at the moment, and 'Liverpool08' reached the top five for all searches on google a couple of weeks ago.

Just a word on Liverpool's 'lack of architecture' St Georges Hall is the envy of every city in the country. Liverpool is listed as a world heritage site by the United Nations, not just for the waterfront, but because of the architecture within the city centre.

There are things which Liverpool needs to still put right, but to knock us because of lack of architecture is really bizarre.
