Is L.A a overated cow town?

I moved here from New York city 10 years ago. It doesn't feel like a real city like London, Paris, New York, Tokyo or Hong Kong. It's like a a bunch of small towns put together.

Well since there are 88 different cities in L.A. County alone that part is accurate. Also, over a hundred years ago and earlier L.A. was exactly a cow town...with lots of Long Horn Steer that were corraled to the beach and gutted and cleaned in the ocean. It attracted alot of Grizzly bears (see Bruins) to the feast...It is totally different than NY, Paris or London which are vertical cities...this is a horizontal city..It lacks a certain central core "heart", which is nice to have...but I don't think of it as a cow town and don't know whose rating system you're using...hope this helps..
When you see the spanish word "Rancho" all over the place--cows are what were on the ranch...

It's only an overrated cow town if you are the sheep.

It took you 10 years to figure out it wasn't like NY, Paris, London, Tokyo, or Hong Kong?? The reason it's not like those cities is because it's LOS ANGELES!

LA is known for it's suburban sprawl and auto oriented lifestyle. There definitely are urban parts of LA like downtown, Koreatown, ect... but it's obviously not like all over. It's known for not being really centralized like other older cities and has been refered to as "suburbs in search of a city". LA is what it is and it's not suppose to be exactly like every other major world city and has it's own identity. It's not for everyone but if you can't appreciate what it has to offer then maybe you should move back or somewhere new.

I agree with you. I think L.A. overrated, but I think most big towns are. If you don't include the suburbs, most big cities are pretty small. Like you mentioned Paris, France, credited with 5605 sq. mi. area and 12 million population, but take away the suburbs and Paris is 40.6 sq.mi. and 2.1 million population.

So if your definition of "real city" has nothing to do with size, population or suburbs, it's what ............... mystique?

Yes! I was born, raised & lived for 30yrs. GLAD to be out!! A crappy place!! I have traveled a good handful of places & there are sooo much nicer, nicer people, the place all of it nicer!! I do NOT miss living there!!! YUCKY!!!!!

***********EDIT**************

Why you people getting mad over other posters answers?? LA SUCKS!!! Get over it!!!!! It is FULL OF SMOG & CRIME & TRAFFIC!!! The school system is in the DUMPS!!!!! Who in their right mind would want their children to go to school in that county???? Look at the school stats!!!!!! BAD!!!!

Yes it's not that great. Hell-la is crap.

Yes, I agree. LA is known for it's sprawl. It's not like NYC. But if you come to LA expecting NY, whose fault is that?

LA is not for everyone. For those that do not like it, please keep your venome and bile to yourself. It has no place here.

LA may be overrated, but hasn't been a cow town for almost 100 years. However, I'll say Sacramento is a cow town. They ring those cow bells whenever the Lakers play the Kings.

I know, I know -- isn't it great?

LA has been called "78 towns in search of a city."

It took me a good five years to have any sense of LA as a city. But I don't see very many cows...

Listen to Paris.

Hell, I have been living in these here parts for over 30 years now. I find using the cement pond for watering the stock and the chickens a real help. Yep by crackie! The chickens are a little noisy in early AM. But getting out to the parking garage to milk the cow is a must. and if you get a really early start you can clean the cow dung off your shoes so you don't stink up the office.

If you don't like it, why don't you move to Paris or London? So we are a bunch of small towns? Who cares? We are one of the largest economies in the world and if you don't like it, you can screw off.

I hate people like you "transplants" from other places
Who complain about Los Angeles...My City..

Why don't you just go back to your backward *** town you came from...

The reason you came "here" in the first place..is because where ever you came from SUCKED...

GO BACK TO YOUR TO YOUR OWN State or Country or wherever that maybe....

BTW NEW YORK SUCKS also get over 9/11 looser that's why it happened in NEW YORK... no one likes NEW YORK and the whole world knows it...
