Is Amsterdam,netherland coastal or inland?

I would think Amsterdam will be classed as inland, even though it is close to what used to be known as the zuiderzee (now largely reclaimed from the sea), and is a port for mainly inland waterway 'barges'
It is approx. 15 miles 'as the crow flies' to the North Sea coast

Amsterdam is inland. Distance to the North Sea is about 30 km/20 miles (30 minute drive).
Towards the east side of Amsterdam is 'het Ijsselmeer', a former sea transformed into a lake (meer = lake). The part close to Amsterdam has been reclaimed about 40 years ago. They made the 12th province called Flevoland in part of that lake. Thats about a 15 minute drive from Amsterdam.

For Dutch distances Amsterdam is inland, but when you look at it with international eyes it is a coastal town.

If you zoom out in this map you can see how near it is to the lake (formerly sea) and to the sea, only 25 km or about 16 miles following the canal, even less as the crow flies:

Rotterdam, which is the same distance from the sea is known as a coastal city.

By the way, even though the ships have to pass through a canal to get to the harbor, pretty big ocean going ships use the Amsterdam Harbor.
The big lock in IJmuiden limits the size of the ships, the lock is 400 meter long, 50 meter wide and -15 meter at the door, see for more information, in Dutch:
