What should i wear mid february?

will stop over in amsterdam in middle of february for 4 days and was wondering what the right winter wear would be for that time of the year

so far, i have a beanie-hat, thick gloves

plan on wearing an undershirt, long-sleeve thermal shirt, sweater and thick sherpa-lined corduroy jacket

boxers, thermal pyjamas and jeans

socks, 10" leather boots

i feel that my upper body clothing may be too warm especially since i plan on walking most of those days exploring the downtown area - what do you think ???

There is no way to know, as with all countries, the weather does what it will. But I can tell you it will be cold. And probably raining, or at least wet from a previous rain.
You are going to be over-dressed and very uncomfortable if you don't dress as you would normally do in American, but with a heavier jacket.Wear jeans, an undershirt(or not), a winter sweater, or sweatshirt, and a jacket.
If walking, you won't be running, so you won't be that hot; and it does get cold when damp in Holland, and it usually is damp. But to enjoy the trip, just do what you do whereever you live, and don't think you are going to the artic.
When I lived there, I had more sweatshirts and jeans than anything, and a winter jacket. Your boots will be fine for the damp streets, but remember they arent' flooded, so don't worry about stepping in and staying in water.
Thick gloves won't be necessary and the beanie hat only if that is what you wear normally.
Read the weather report daily for Amsterdam through Yahoo, and you'll see how cold it is. Nothing to worry about; again it isn't the artic, or Alaska.
the clothes that I had in California, I took to Holland. I did fine, and did not buy thermals, etc. I wasn't going skiing, just shopping. :)

ha ha i wud love to see you arrive in that lot, all you need is normal pants, trousers, shirt, jumper and a good rain coat and normal shoes. plus loads of money for window shopping or the local pilsner beers.

Well if you live in Italy or Florida, you may not be overdressed, as your blood is thin and used to warmer weather

But I visited Amsterdam in June, and wished I had brought a warmer coat....and it rained A LOT...

so make sure you either take an umbrella or have something to put over your coat to keep the rain off.

Definitely bring a rain coat and waterproof shoes!!

But do not overdress if you plan to do a lot of walking. Legging or pyjamas under your jeans is good if you come from a warmer climate than ours.

As for the upper body, the trick is to wear many layers:
- singlet undershirt
- long sleeve t-shirt
- sweater (vest with buttons or zipper, in case you get hot)
- good coat (but not heavy material), that covers your bum as well.
- scarf or shawl
- hat and gloves

plus a thin raincoat or rain poncho, big enough to wear over your coat.

Should do it!!

Enjoy Amsterdam

Of course it's very hard to say what the weather will be like in 2 to 3 weeks time, but it sounds like you're getting ready to go to the North-pole!

Right now it's reasonably dry and the temperature is about 5 to 7 degrees at night and 8 to 12 degrees in the day... it will probably be a little bit warmer in a few weeks...

Myself I'm just wearing jeans, t-shirt and my winter-jacket with sneakers... No gloves, no hat, no thermal underwear.

There's a good chance it will rain so be prepared for that!

Well it will be cold,Once i went in february it was minus 10.c at night minus 5 during the day ,All canals were frozen over.
