Can you talk on your cell phone in amsterdam if your phone is from the US?

can u even get service

Yes, but you'll need a tri-band GSM (we're on a different frequency so it has nothing to do with the SIM-card but with the capabilities of your phone) and your operator needs to have a contract with a Dutch operator, you can probably find out both these things from your operator... Be prepared for very high costs per call though, you might want to check that too... Alternatively, you could just pick up a cheap pre-paid phone at most supermarkets here, it will cost you from about 鈧?0,- for the cheapest Nokia, but calling the USA from one of those will REALLY be very expensive... You can have the folks back home call to that phone though, it will cost the same as any calls to a Dutch cell phone would from where they're calling from, this wil probably be cheaper for them than if you'd use your own phone, but you'd have to let them know your number of course... If people call you from the States, you'll want to tell them that you're in Europe because their phonebill will also be huge if they call you a lot.

You do NOT need a quad-band phone... Quad-band phones are relatively new and rare... For the Netherlands, you need a phone that will work on the 900 MHz band, if it also works on the 1800MHz band that's fine, but you don't need that, it only makes the phone more expensive than it needs to be...

Depends on what kind of phone and service you have. The capability is there, though, on phones with a certain kind of SIM card. Your cell phone company may charge you some pretty exorbitant roaming charges though, so you may want to check or switch plans if you want to do that.

i have t-mobile and i used mine in a couple of places in europe, the only bad thing, i got a huge azz bill after i came back. funny thing people didn't even know i was there and were just calling me left and right and it went through. but keep in mind when ur not using it turn it off cuz even if it rings u will get charged because it is using their towers to make a connection to ur phone. bizzaaarreeeenessss!!!!

at&t and t-mobile are both GSM carriers and their phones will work in Amsterdam. Make sure your phone is a quad-band GSM world phone. Tri-bands don't work in certain GSM countries so quad is your best bet.

Also, the rates are almost a dollar a minute so you're better off with a phone card.

yes you can as soon as you turn on your phone the local provider network will send a phone signel anywhere in the world, but be careful as its very expensive

I think it is only T - Mobile that offers that.
