Interested in moving to netherlands to work as a bartender/firefighter?

well i currently live in california as a firefighter/bartender and was wonder if major citys are paid firefighters or volunteer. Of course i will be learning dutch and am probably going to be doing study abroad before i make the move to make shure i like it there. i am particularly interested in amsterdam but am open to move anywhere in the netherlands that is a major city

i am planning on going there as a student to start off learning to speak dutch. if someone could mentor me on this i would greatly apperciate that. i have tons of questions.

Europe has strict regulation for firefighter (in Paris, it is part of the military - not sure about NL and Amsterdam). as bar tender, you should have no problem!!! just the language, although Amsterdam is very international and you can live there for years without speaking Dutch.

You need a work permit to live in any EU country.

I have a friend who is working with the firefighters brigade in Amsterdam. As a volunteer, the admission rules are lower than if you would like to work as a professional (paid) firefighter -> I know you have to pass some very hard tests then. Also, I don't know what the rules are about admitting foreigners in the brigade.
If you want to know more about this, let me know by email and I'll ask my friend for you.

I have several friends who are fire fighters and I think you will have a hard time to get in if you get in at all.

You will have to be fluent in Dutch, nearly perfect bilingual, as there may not be any misunderstanding about what is said.

There are always many more people applying for paid firefighters jobs than there are jobs to be given.
There is even much competition for the volunteer and factory (big factories only) firefighters positions.
If you as firefighter are trained in field that is needed here but not many people here can do you might have a better position.

Even for work as bar tender you need to speak Dutch, and you need to apply for a work permit before you can even start to work.
As a student you can get permits easier, but for people from the USA it is not easy to settle in the Netherlands or anywhere else in the European Union.
