I need help about netherlands?

i will go to netherlands from turkey via afs and stay there for one year with a host family from there.what is the country and people like?what should/shouldnt i do there?how the school system(high school)works there?is the language hard to learn?did i make a good choice?

The people are usually very friendly and laidback. The language is dutch, which is ok to learn, but they speak alot of English too.
There is nothing you should/should not do, as i said dutch people are usually quite laidback.
I dont know much about the school systems, sorry.
I love the netherlands, its a beautiful country.

i live in holland.. if your turkish you will have no problems.. theres turkish people where ever you go so plenty of help when your here ..well anyway the country is nice and its cold plenty of night life... schools are ok and the country is ok if your not dutch good luk

Erm..I wouldn't say Dutch people are friendly. Sure, they might make remarks like 'mooie weer' (nice weather,eh?) or say hello if they walk pass you but other than that, you're pretty much on your own. They're not the sort who'd take you out or something nor will they invite you to dinner or into their cliques . Of course not everyone is like that but just be prepared!

There are indeed quite a few Turkish people here but this might work for you or against you. Luckily for you, the Dutch are focusing their hostility on Moroccans now .

What you should do: speak your mind, talk talk talk, you're expected to have a say in everything even if it's stupid. If you're quiet, they'll think you're asocial, stupid and/or strange. Being 'normal' is very important here lol.

There are 3 kinds of high schools- MBO, HAVO and VWO. MBO is the lowest (hairdressers/technicians/ cooks /childcare etc), HAVO is in the middle and it caters to people who want to become journalists or work in IT or communications etc. VWO is for people who want to become professionals- doctors etc.

It's not all bad in The Netherlands though. If you need help, people will help you . You just have to ask! English is widely spoken so at least you won't feel very lonely. In general, as long as you're here inpermanently and highly educated, you will be treated nicely enough.

Language isn't too difficult (it's somewhat similiar to English) but what's hard is because Dutch is spoken by very few people, it cannot be understood unless spoken perfectly without an accent (unlike English where any accent is pretty much accepted and understandable!). A lot of Dutch people will correct you (je moet nederlands leren!) but your Dutch host family will probably help you:)

What's also nice for a young person like you is the freedom teenagers get. You are expected to be independant (public transport or walk or bike unlike in most countries where you have a car or get your parents to send you haha) and you'll be allowed out by yourself anytime you want within reason.

yes you have made a good choice, Holland is a beautiful country, the people are friendly and family minded.the standard of living is good, and the country is multi- cultural. i think you will find it a bit difficult to learn the language , someone told me it is the second hardest to learn. good luck and yes you have made a good choice.
