How safe is to stay in Amsterdam for couple of days?

We are travelling for the first time in the Europe during March. Is that safe to stay in AMsterdam for couple of days or sugges go back to Frankfurt? Our plan is, We are going to stay in Frankfurt and visit places around.

It's a shame that you apparently have received some negative reports about safety.

Yes some things are true - ie there is a red light district and yes some male groups frequent these as tourists and also the surrounding bars, but this is a distortion of the "real Amsterdam" for those who want to see it.

There are negatives as mentioned by Paul with pickpocketing, but this is the same as Frankfurt, London, and any other main city in Europe (and outside as well), so don't like this put you of. Just ensure you keep your valuables such as wallets, phones etc properly secured and then you won't have to worry about this

It caters for all tastes and depending on what you like, art, history, culture, museums, shopping, dining or just a few quiet drinks, there are so many things to do and see. You can see on www.amsterdam.com or www.amsterdamtourist.nl/

I hope you take time for a visit (and maybe even outside of Amsterdam as then you get another view of Holland as well) and enjoy yourself

I stayed in Amsterdam for a week and had a fantastic time. Personally, a couple days is not enough. The city is beautiful (outside of the red light district) and there is just too much to see in 2 days. As far as safety goes, the biggest danger you'll encounter is being pick pocketed. DO NOT carry your wallet in your back pocket.. They can spot a tourist from a mile away and it WILL get stolen. If a shady individual comes up close to you trying to make conversation about nothing and is just babbling keep your distance. In some cases they create elaborate situations in order to pick pocket you. Other than that you are in no danger of violent crimes. The two other big problems in Amsterdam are bike theft and public urination. Enjoy your stay, and keep your valuables in a safe place.

The Nederlands in generality is very save.
I don't undesrtand why you are preoccupied.... I stayed there several times and there is nothing to worried about.

I visit Amsterdam several times every year and have never had any problems. As others have said, there are pickpockets, but they're everywhere you might go. There are interesting things to see and do throughout the year in Amsterdam itself and there are a lot of other interesting places that you can visit using the trains and buses like Muiden, Hoorn, Enkhuisen, Delft, Gouda, Utrecht, Leiden, ... . I particularly like Keukenhof when it's open in the spring and already have reservations for both Easter and late April this year.

I lived in the Red Light District for a year. Amsterdam is very safe. You are not likely to be in any danger from Nederlanders at all. They are great people. You have to visit the Red Light District. It's a real neighborhood with families.

The only time I had to deal with a shady character was when a guy came up to me and asked me if I wanted to buy cocaine. I said no and he went away.

Take a tourboat ride through the canals. It's cheap. Got to the Betty Boop coffeeshop(for coffee if not marijuana). Take the free ferry across the river from the train station to the other side. Climb to the top of the Oude Kerke (Old Church) in the Red Light District. Check out the Flower market on the Singel Canal. There are a number of nice museums.

Amsrerdam is a great place to live. It's a smaller city. You can walk to almost everything of interest. Most people speak at least some English.
