What hotels do you recommend in Amsterdam?

I'd like something central & fairly upscale. Thanks!

Sofitel Grand is very centrally located and a five star- really nice property.

Intercontinental Amstel is very upscale too, but it's too far out of the city center.

I stayed at the hotel Pulitzer. A little pricey but right on the canals and within walking distance of all the sites
