Amsterdam in July...any suggestions to places I can stop by?

that are near the airport? I'm there for 10 hours so I"m interested in doing and trying anything worthy. Some suggestions. Don't be shy. I know they have the 'cafe's' there so any recommendations or even to great spots that are 'clean' and legal by the US laws are fine too.

Thanks guys and gals!

Also, the airport is just outside the city, it will take you less than 30 minutes from the city center to get to the airport... You can get to the airport from anywhere in the city (except jail) in less than an hour, so how near to the airport something in Amsterdam is, is quite irrelevant... The whole of Amsterdam is near to the airport...

Enjoy yourself!

(you can take canaltourboats from next to Central Station too, which is also right next to the Red Light District... The Leidseplein area is best in the evening and at night, not so much to do there during the day except sit on a terrace and have coffee... The train from the airport to Central Station takes about 10 minutes.... maybe 15, "coffeeshops" are all over the place, not just in the Red Light District)

There's not much near the airport, but with ten hours to kill you could take the train into the city. (Just be sure to time your visit so you're back at Schipol two hours before your flight.)

The biggest tourist-type coffee shop is the Bulldog on the Leidseplein, but you could wander around the streets and just look for the green leaf sign.

If you want to get a nice overview of the city, take the canal tour. You can catch the boat right near the Leidseplein.

In July it's going to be horrendously crowded with tourists, so you won't get the full flavor of how great the Dutch people are.
