Are drugs and prostitution legal in Holland?

Somebody told me all about their drug program there. I'm not into all that but it sounds like they do have a better drug program there than here in America. Is that true?

First of all, no drugs are legal, but a little weed is not acted against.

For those people addicted to hard drugs there are several programs, I do not know all the ins and outs, but in general, safety and disease control go for prosecution of those addicted.
So you can exchange used needles for clean ones, (so they are not left in school yards and play places for little kids,) and the addicts do not have to share dirty needles spreading aids and other diseases.

If you are a drug addict and want to get of it, there are also programs helping you, rather than sending you to a prison where drugs are smuggled in.

The Dutch system is meant to control the hard drugs, keep all drugs away from kids and try to keep even addicts from getting ill, so they do not spread illness around.

As the number of hard drugs addicts is not growing, (I believe the number of Dutch addicts is going down, but the foreigners coming into the country is keeping the numbers up,) the number of Dutch weed smokers seems to be steady.
The total percentage of people using drugs in the Netherlands is smaller than that in some countries that have a hard anti-drugs policy (if I remember right it is much lower than that in the USA,) but I am not sure about these numbers.
I remember them from news on the radio and TV, I do not have a link to prove it.

By the way, police can stop you to search you if they think you carry drugs, and a little weed will not be a problem in itself, but if you are arrested for something else, the drugs will get you a harder jail sentence or at least more problems with the police.

Added:
Prostitution is legal, you need to be 18, both to work and to be a customer. If working you need to register and pay tax on what you earn.
It is not really accepted.
Not many people will admit that they use the services of one of the ladies or men, even less will admit working in the scene.

Yes, I think you can smoke only at certain places or something.. I don't know about prostitution, though.

I don't know about the prostitution but the drugs ...
they have it like GUM

Marijuana is legal opium based drugs aren't but the cops can't stop and search anyway so...
You can't smoke on the street you need to be at home or in a hash bar.
Prostitutes are also legal.

its technically not legal. but its condoned. smoking in public is not alowed (on streets either) usually they let you go, but if you cause trouble they can arrest you.

Yes. although not all drugs are condoned, only certain drugs that have been deemed 'harmless' under the dutch opium law. Weed, Hash, certain types of mushrooms fall into these.

you cannot transport more than 5g of weed on your person. above this amount you can be fined, and the drugs can be confiscated. there are special 'drug- free' zones. in certain cities. usually on shopping malls etc.

as for prositution. its only legal if it is indoors. and the brothel has a liscence. as a part of the liscence, prostitutes need to be regularly examined for STD's and other health hazards.

i personally think that the drug policies in the netherlands are better than in the US. same goes for prostitution laws.

Drugs are illegal. However, _consuming_ drugs (both hard and soft) is not penalised in practice. Selling hard drugs, on the other hand, is penalised harshly. Selling soft drugs is tolerated in some areas.

Drugs in Holland are seen as a health problem, not as a crime problem like in the US. Therefore the dutch government primarily tries to treat drug addicts instead of putting them in prison.

Prostitution is legal (both selling and buying). Pimping, however, is not.

Is it better than in America? Holland has a much lower rate of drug consumption than America (especially cannabis) but to what extent that is a result of culture or policy is hard to tell.

Everything but guns are legal in Amsterdam!!!
