At New Orleans, can you go to the beach and swim?

...

not anymore

the closest beach to New Orleans was

Pontchartrain Beach was an amusement park located on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain.

the park has been closed for a long time. If you can remember swimming your probably in your 60's + and if you can remember The Zephyr your at least 40 yrs old.

you can still visit the "Lake front" but you don't want to swim in it.

,,^._.^,,

If you want to.

you can if you would like but the beach isnt right in town

New Orleans isn't actually on the sea coast. Lake Pontchartrain (despite the name it is a salt-water bay) is to the north of the city but doesn't really have good beaches. The water in the Lake and along the Louisiana coastline is also muddy due to the numerous rivers.

The Mississippi coast is about an hour east of New Orleans by car, but it is too close to the mouth of the Mississippi River for the water to be clear.

When we who live here want to go to the beach we go to southern Alabama and northwestern Florida. An example is Destin, FL, which is a 5-hour drive to the east: http://www.destinfl.com/

There are no beaches in town.

I suppose you can go to the Gulf and go swimming but I wouldn't recommend it. Louisiana beaches are nasty and that was before Katrina. I suggest going over to Bay Saint Louis or Gulfport in Mississippi for that. Lake Ponchatrain was just getting swimmable right before the hurricane but now we proabley won't be able to safely swim in it in our lifetime. As for the river, nobody can swim in it unless they have some kind of current protecting system.

lol beach???? what beach??? you mean the lake front? yeah sure you can get in the water if you want to be towed under by the current and drown.... other than that i wouldnt recomend it.

Is this a Joke!!!!

lol ... you can try .. but we have nothing but swamp along the coast .. and gators

everyone either heads towards tx .. or more common .. Alabama or Florida

U CAN SWIM IN THE LAKE BUT I WOULDNT U WILL GET SUCKED UNDER BY THE TIDES

um.... sorry but no. most cities dont have beaches..... but in mississippi there is one. I know it sucks~!

wouldnt recommend it

NO, there are NO beaches in New Orleans! New Orleans is NOT located on the Gulf! If you want to swim, you'd have to go to the hotel pool, or drive about an hour and half to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. There are no public pools in New Orleans.
