When is a good time to go to New Orleans besides Mardi Gras?

I went once over Easter and it was good but I want to go again this year. When should I go.

The French Quarter Festival is great. You get all the music, fun, and action of Mardi Gras, with a fraction of the crowds. Jazz Fest is also terrific, but very crowded. Lastly, New Year's Eve is fun in New Orleans, too.

The Jazz Fest is a great time. It's the last full weekend in April and the first full weekend in May. Festivities are at fairgrounds Thursday through Sunday. Music for everyone and more adult oriented.

Check out Jazz Festival... think it is better than Mardi Gras.

Halloween. New Orleans loves good costume parties. Jazz-fest is likely to be packed out and rooms will be scarce and more $$$. There's jass there all year anyway, so unless you like an outdoor festival in the heat, you can enjoy jazz anyway.
Just any time really, except the summer is very humid and hot and not so pleasant.

AROUND OCTOBER SO YOU CAN CATCH THE FESTIVALS AND HAUNTED HOUSE TOURS DOWN TOWN ITS TIGHT...

you can still enjoy things all summer

edit: the only reason I say this is: if you have not planed to come, made reservations it's hard to find a room, rental car etc. Jazz fest is getting more expensive all the time but it's
still a lot of fun.

The best weather is between late October and late April.

Halloween is another good time to visit. It is like a 1-day Mardi Gras, but without the parades.

My favorite time is right before Christmas because its not terribly cold and there arent very many people in the French Quarter. Also they do the carroling in Jackson Square when about 1000 or more people come together at night and sing christmas carrolls. Also city park has a really nice attraction of christmas lights and other things. Oh and canal place shopping center has different schools performing everyday at 12 noon.

Come for Jazz Fest, does it get any better than Stevie Wonder, Billie Joel, Santana, or Widespread Panic...i think not. But any time of the year is great.
