What are the difference b/w those big MTA buses
eg. B63, B65, B67 M102
and the small old ones? Why do they still have the old ones?
Is it a difference b/w the gas mileage and stuff?

the mta uses these large "articulated" buses where ever they can depending on the ridership. they are made by new flyer, and is model number is d60hf.

these new long buses can't be used on routes with many turns and small streets. they are best on big routes like Bx12, or the manhattan crosstown routes like the M23, M14, also downtown like the M15, M101/103.

these nova RTS are the old buses

they are used everywhere because these buses haven't been replaced by newer buses yet. also before mta bus became mta bus, many bus lines in queens used to be run by affiliates like command bus, triboro, green bus, etc. buses on lines run by these affiliates still use these nova buses, and in many cases the buses were just repainted on the outside with new colors. inside they were all old and decrepit. many of them have been replaced by orion V and VI buses.

the orion V and orion VI buses are in a way a replacement for the nova RTS. they are used everywhere, and on lines that can't use the long articulated buses. like M34 (which has to navigate the tight turns of the jacob javitts center)

these orion VII buses are newest buses, they run on hybrid compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric.

these buses are used on some lines like M104.
i hate these orion vii.

there is one model of bus that is used exclusively in brooklyn, and they are the buses made by new flyer model CNG. they can be found on bus lines like the B61.

here is a list, photos, and information of all bus models used in nyc

there isnt any diff i guess but u can use either. if u miss 1 u can use the other

The big ones are used for bus lines that tend to get more riders. The MTA finds it more convenient to get a big bus to fit all the riders rather than to get more smaller buses to carry the riders. Other places have just the small ones because of the lack of riders. Therefore some lines have big buses and some don't.

The small buses are CNG buses. The MTA is in a process of replacing the older gasoline powered buses with CNG (Compress Natural Gas) buses. These bus are ment to reduce the CO2 levels in the amothphere. It also will help reduce the large number of asthma cases in the parts of the City.

Here in the Bronx, CNG buses are be used on the Bx 15, 17, 21, 32 and other lines.

I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck.
