Sydney to perth?

we are planning a trip to Perth. i was wondering how much time we would need to do the drive there and back (from syd). we want to stop and visit some places in between without being rushed.

I have done this trip a couple of times and love it. If you go through the middle of the country and drive 8-12 hours a day it will take you 5 days. The Great Ocean Road way will take an extra day, but is beautiful if you have never seen it. The best fish and chips are at Port Campbell! You will have a great time seeing the real Australia. I reckon you're not an Aussie until you have driven across the Nullabor plain. The Nullabor is one of the most unreal places in Australia. As you reach each roadhouse you will find the same group of people as you are traveling at the same rate. You soon become a family and look for one another at the next stop. Spring is the best time to travel, when the whales are at the Head of The Bight. Being so close to these magnificent creatures with their new babies is just magic.

With stopping and looking around? At least a week. It's around 4,012 km, so you're in for the long haul!

Edit - I forgot about the coming back bit. make it two weeks at least.

You would need 2 weeks...to drive non-stop one way is about 4 days. have a great trip.

Agree with above. Took me 4 days to drive from Sydney to Perth only stopping for petrol and accommodation going the speed limits - lots of country police especially once you enter WA. Better not to drive from dusk onwards as you are more than likely to hit a roo or emu. It all depends on what and where you want to see. Have fun!

my dad used to do road trains from Brisbane to Perth return and the truck rarely stoped...only for feul and some food.

that trip took 6 days to complete with the truck running 22 hours per day and half a day in perth......

just take your time. have extra petrol and water as well as some food suplies in the car just incase and some tools that you can do DIY for anything that may happen to your car....and of course a mobile.

Everytime you stop at a roadhouse, just tell the guy at the counter what your planning to do over the next few hours (in general conversation) just so one person knows where you are for if something were to go wrong.

the roads arnt that bad out there not like going Adelaide-Darwin.

I have never done the trip so i cant properly answer your question but use those tips and common sense from what I gave you above...its all just in case.
