In your opinion, what are some of the issues currently facing the city of Philadelphia? Corruption, crime, and horrible schools are some of the worst issues n Philly in my opinion. Philly politics is so corrupt! It is a horrible "pay to play" system that has been going on forever. If you grease the right palms you are set, if you p*** off the wrong person you are screwed. Crime, poverty and homelessness kind of feed off each other and lump them all into one group (along with drugs). The school system is a joke. If you want a well-educated child you have to get them in a magnet school or send them to private school. Schools are not well-funded because 1) the Parking Authority promised milions of dollars to Phily schools but has yet to deliver (see "corruption" above), and 2) property taxes are too low. It is a joke! I can understand that poor people in North Philly or West Philly can't foot a high tax bill..... but people in areas like Chestnut Hill and West Mount Airy are only paying $2,000 a year in taxes! It's insane! I use to live in philly but now i live in new jeresy. but i still have family that live in philly. Crime rate, guns and drug are the issue in philadelphia right now and something needs to be done about this. I grow up in juniata park and that neighbord was so nice and clean growing up but now it's looks like a ghetto because drugs, guns and the crime has taken over the neighboord. my dad still lives in this nieghboord and my brothers and me keep telling my dad he needs to move (which he knows he has to) but he can't because he can't retried until he is 65 and he doens't want to have to start over again at his age. Philadelphia has some many problems and the mayor or putting cops in bad area is going to help philly out. Philly is a lose cause and it's not worth saving. It suck growing up somewhere and seeing what has happen to it but most it suck that you can go back there ever again. Obviously the high crime rate is the most pressing issue. Drugs are rampant, and have been for years. It will take very unpopular decisions to get a handle on the situation. people like you who ask questions, but know the answers to questions. The Philadelphia public pension system...it's a ticking time bomb. Well, crime is the easy answer. The increasing amount of fires seems to be a big one, too. Philly has a lot of problems that are common among our older cities: definetly the crime rates. one thing we did right was elect michael nutter. he is a great person, and he is going to do a lot to help the city. poverty is another great issue facing the city. south philadelphia is a hell hole, but theres really nothing that can help that, so it will probobly always be like that . No respect for authority. poverty, high crime, high taxes and poorly functioning schools The city is a mess, crime is out of control the police get no help when people are assaulted and murdered even when there are several witnessed..the "stop snitching" mentality in the city is destroying the city. I still enjoy sundays at the italian...or somewhat Italian market but its changing too and not for the better Crime |
