I say no LNG in Oregon?

What is your stand in the LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) that some want to bring to Astoria Oregon, and the Columbia River?

I know all the cons, but what could be a pro? It really won't bring the right kind of employment boost to the area that the big businesses are trying sway the citizens with. 59 million to help the salmon that are currently dwindling in numbers isn't making me rethink my stand either. That money will only go to fixing all the things that go wrong with a project like this.

added to this catagory since Portland is the only city on here close to where they want to start destroying the natural resources.

thanks for the info :) I really am trying hard to find a pro for the project that isn't simply trying to save ppl a few bucks in exchange for tredging the river and suppling California with up to 20% of the incoming LNG. Oregon wouldn't benefit much from this, it's more for other states.

I live in Vancouver, Washington (across the river from Portland). Most people I've taked to are totally against LNG. The only pros that I can think of are the fees and taxes that the state and county governments are going to make off of it.

The only kind of natural gas I've ever had occasion to deal with is the gaseous kind. I lived in Texas, and in Colorado, and it's used in both places to heat homes instead of oil or electricity. It's very inexpensive, and very clean (practically zero particulate emissions, including NO sulfur dioxide). It's also ABSOLUTELY the best for cooking. I now live near Seattle, and I wish my apartment complex had it.

That doesn't mean that it has ANYTHING to do with the liquid variety - as I said, I have not dealt with that before - but perhaps it will provide a few answers.
