American Cars in Lisbon Portugal?

Is it feasable to drive an American Car (Dodge Charger R/T to be exact) in Lisbon? I'm not sure on gas prices, size of streets, and legality of the issue. Thanks for the answers in advance!

Shipping is not an issue. I have that taken care of if I find the answers I am looking for.

Well, there are some old narrow streets in Lisbon, mainly in the medieval section, where you just can't get in, but those areas are exclusively for people who live there anyway. In most streets you'll be ok, the main problem will be gas. Gasoline costs almost 1,50 euros A LITER... Your Dodge as an incredibly poor mileage when compared to most european gasoline cars, so you'll spend a lot of money on fuel. Diesel is cheaper, that's why most european cars are diesel.

But the biggest issue is the legality of your situation, if you're going to live in Portugal for more than 3 months you have to buy a portuguese license plate, a very complicated, bureaucratic and expensive process. Cars in Portugal are taxed according to the capacity of the engine, the cubic centimeters. From 2000 cc upwards you start to pay a fortune. From 3000 cc up, with the exception of commercial vehicles, you have to be a millionaire... A Dodger is at least 2,7 cc, I think... Be prepared to spend at least 4000, 5000 or even more euros to buy a portuguese license plate.

Another issue, I seriously doubt if your car is according to the Euro norms regarding emmissions, contrary to what many americans think, the most strict rules are the european. And it's not only in emmissions, they're also safety measures, most american cars wouldn't pass the european crash tests.

So if your intention is just to drive around Europe and then come back to the US, it's feasable.

But if you'll be staying for more than 3 months, forget it, you'd have to pay a fortune and most probably your car wouldn't be accepted, the best solution is to buy a car here or get a car through long duration rent, you pay a fee monthly and after a certain ammount you get to choose if you keep the car or return it.

Yes But you have to ship it your self there !

It will cost you a lot: you have to change your plate to a portuguese one. (it will cost you around 4000 euros (!!!!!)) Besides that, the price of gasoline is so f***ing expensive (1,40 鈧?litre). It would be cheaper to buy a 2-hand car (If i knew, i would sell you a Citro毛n, for 1.500 鈧?!!) My advise: it's better to stay in USA! Just kidding: Come to Portugal and travel by bus, or metro, or train, or taxi. This is, TRULY, a very beautiful and special country!

well i think the biggest problem for you will be the streets size appart from the mains avenues..its hard to find one where an american car can fit

gas is very expensive around $ 2 a Litre or $ 8 Gallon. You can drive that car in Portugal but lanes are narrow so you have to drive carefully. is hard to get replacement parts and you need to change the plates and that isn't easy. will take time and some money but you will get a lot of girls trust me.
