Does anyone know the name or names of a German town(s)?

Does anyone know the name or names of a German town(s) where a lot of American families resides during the 1980s? The specific town that I am looking for was a short drive from the base and an estimated two to five hours drive to the ruins of a castle (in the moutains).

When I asked my mother she told me that the town started with a P

Pirmasens?

Kaiserslautern, Heidelberg, Wuerzburg, Grafenwoehr, Hanau, Wiesbaden....thats just a few, hope that helps. Or maybe you mean Baumholder

Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen,Cologne,Effel ,Bravaria,Frankfurt

It could be Augsburg, they had about three bases there at one time. And it is about a couple of hours away from the Bavarian Alps, which has a number of castles....don't know about ruins. The Germans would have cleaned that up a long time ago, or if at all possible, restored it. Hope this helps !

Could it be Poppenhausen? There is a base in Schweinfurt and Poppenhausen is just a few minutes from there. I am not for sure about the castle ruins though. If you can give me some more information about what state or maybe if it was close to a large city that might help. I hope you do find the answer though. I hate it when I want to know something and can't find it.

This website my help also, especially if your mom could recognize the town if she saw the name.

You may want to look at some of the larger cities on the website and it will show some of their smaller town names with it. Good Luck!
