Where is the safest place to live in germany?

Im looking to move to Germany in the next 2 years, and I want to know where is a good place to live. I want some where.. close to holland preferably.. but any where is nice if you give me some kind of idea :P

Avoid big cities. I would prefer a place with a big (old) university. There u have all kinds of people around and it has a cosmopolitan touch. Its safer and interesting!

Germany in general is safer than the states but it's always a good idea to stay away from big cities. The nice thing about Germany is that there are tons of villages all around major metropolitian areas so take your pick! I would avoid places like Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, and Frankfurt but feel free to be close to them in a quaint little town!

The dutch-german border is quite long. There are lots of choices on what you prefer. Aachen is certainly a nice city, but even further north towards the coast is nice. Another factor is that even if you live (for american comparison) 1 hour from the border, your choices are very extensive.

I suppose the same goes for rule of thumb in the states: large cities are more dangerous. But they don't offer the variety in life (theater, movies, restarants, bars, etc.)

i lived in a more residental area, with a few manufacturing businesses surrounding us. it was quite comfortable and safe there. the others r correct, if u live near the bigger cities, crime rate will be higher than small towns.

According to the latest crime statistics, Munich is the safest large city in Germany. The safest overall is Solingen.
If you want to live near the Netherlands, your best choice would be Aachen (#22 on the safest list).

Compared to the States Germany is pretty safe! O_O
I lived in Dusseldorf for 5 years (a large city) and had no problems! I guess if you had to name areas i would say parts of Berlin and maybe certain areas of Former East Germany where unemployment is sky high.

Stay away from the East, the Holland Border area is generally nice, so is the one to Belgium or Luxembourgh. Aachen is indeed nice, a smaller nice town would be Trier or Wittlich. The Rhein-Main-Area is really nice and has tons of things to do as well, just downtown Frankfurt might not be such a great place when it comes to safety but personally I麓ve never encountered any problems there at any given time of the day or night.
