Russian help?

when asked about a patients parents... patient keeps saying that her parents are in a svabodna strana.. which to me , directly translates to free country? i dont get it. could i have gotten it wrong, help anyone?

"svabodna strana" does translate to a free country. but w/o context i do not get either what that patient of your was trying to tell you. although, if the problem of your patient is a mental illness, that would clarify things a lot. another possibility to consider is that that patient of yours simply does not speak English (why else in the world he / she would try to answer you in Russian). in that latter case what exactly you asked him / her is simply beside the point. then you 've got to find an interpreter who would be able to help you (and him/her) then.

Edited: Actually, Kittu (the person who answered above) might be correct. It might be the name of the street or the town (?) in which her parents reside. You see, there is no guarantee that you got the phrase correctly, since whatever she said was in a foreign language. On top of that it might not necesseraly be in the Russian language. It might be in another Slavic language that sound sounds similar to Russian. In any case w/o additional details this discussion is kind of pointless. still, i wish you good luck w/ figuring this one out.

It looks to be the name of the street the patient's parents are residing.

da agree looks like street instituskaya ana aya looks like street for sure

exactly free counry but it would be a very wierd street unless its like in a liitle town in russia, but probably wont be in any where big cities.

Unless i got too americanized lol
