I would like to know the best place to live near Camp Pendleton CA?

My husband is in the military and he will be stationed to Camp Pendleton in March. I have 2 kids, one goes to school already (elementary) and I just want to make sure we are going to be living in the best area near that base. I want to avoid crappy places and I know people here can really give good suggestions. Pls. tell me the best place where we can live and maybe where there's some better schools around. And what places to avoid. Thanks

The area of Oceanside out by Vista. The section on Melrose Ave between Cannon and up to Palomar Airport Rd. is nice. Also the area called Shadowridge is a nice area.

It's a nice area for public transportaion. There is a service called the FAST bus that comes to pick you up at your place and take you to the transportaion center which has buses for the entire area and the new Sprinter that runs between Oceanside and Escondido. http://gonctd.com
So going to downtown San Diego from north county isn't really a big deal anymore.

There is a large apartment complex that a lot of military families live in on Melrose and Cannon. It's called the Windrift apartments. It's a very nice, safe and affordable complex.
There is an excellent elementary and middle school 1 block from Windrift. I lived there for 13 years and enjoyed it.

Here's a link that will let you check out Windrift

here is another link that you will find handy for living in the area. It's a free, weekly magazine that has great information about all of san diego county. There is also a real good coupon section that can save you some bucks. Check it out.
