How much do you pay for your utilities in San Diego? |
I am moving to SD in a couple months and was wondering how much each of your utilities cost you each month and what kind of place you live in, house, apartment... When I lived in a 2-bedroom apartment in Escondido (north San Diego County), I paid about $80-120 a month on my SDG&E bill each month. SDG&E is the gas and electric company for San Diego County, and what one person said is true: they do charge a lot. Before my husband and I got married, he had a studio apartment in Lakeside (east San Diego County) and he paid about $40-50 per month to SDG&E. We now live in a 3-bedroom condo in El Cajon (also East San Diego County) and we pay from $150-200 per month to SDG&E. My parents lived in a 4-bedroom house while they were alive (3 years ago) and they lived in Escondido (north San Diego County) and they paid about $200 per month). Now my parents had solar heat for their swimming pool and they had gas heat rather than electric. That makes a difference on cost. Their swimming pool motor used a lot of energy. My parents had a whole house fan that they ran instead of the air conditioner as much as possible in the summer, which also helped cut costs. I forgot to mention that when you find a place you are considering moving into, you can call SDG&E and ask them to let you know what the average gas/electric cost was for the prior year. I believe they will tell you. Report It Sorry, hun, I don't live there. 2000 square foot house -- about $250/mo. One bedroom in downtown SD averages about $100/month. We pay an average of $50 in the winter time, $80-$120 in the summer time. We live in a small-ish 2 BR apartment in Point Loma -- one of the cooler climates in San Diego, and we use VERY little in the way of utilities...we even hand-wash our dishes rather than using our dishwasher! And that's JUST electricity; we have NO gas appliances in our unit, and hot water is provided by the complex. |
